Most people these days do not want a bunch of useless toys around that will cause nothing but clutter.
If you are like me, you want fun and maybe even educational toys that your child will actually play with. And you want to gift those items to others too!
Here is my ultimate list, as a mom of a boy and a girl, of gifts for a one year old for any occasion, whether that be a birthday, Christmas or just because! There is a good mix of cheaper to more expensive options, so make sure you look through well.

Peek-a-boo Touch and Feel Puzzle
These puzzles are all about the sensory experience that toddlers crave. Every animal on this puzzle has a fun fabric that kids can touch and play with. Plus the mirror in the middle is an added bonus!
Usborne Touchy Feely Books
Going along with the sensory theme, you cannot go wrong with a good touchy feely book. I love this series of books because there is a theme for every toddler, whether it be dogs, cats, otters, or fun holiday themes like pumpkins or snowmen. Every page has a different fabric for toddlers to feel.
Check them out and pick one you think the one year old in your life would love!
Balance Bike
One year old is the perfect age to introduce a balance bike. They are just starting to walk and really lean into the gross motor development. Any toddler would love to safely speed along on this balance bike!
Jumbo Knob Puzzles
I love knob puzzles because the knobs are the perfect size and shape for little hands to practice with puzzles. Puzzles are also a great way to learn shapes, colors, letters or numbers.
Stacking Toys
Every toddler loves to stack things, and probably more importantly, knock them down! These ones in particular are fun because they are nesting blocks, so they fit inside each other for easy storage. They also come with the most adorable animals.
Toddlers can practice stacking them, numbers, matching the animals to the blocks and nesting them together!
This stacking toy is so fun because the blocks spin as they go down. What a great ‘spin’ on a classic!
Push Walker
One year olds are just starting to walk, so a fun push walker is the perfect thing. They can hold on for balance while practicing those walking moves.
This one has fun crocodiles who’s mouths open and close as it goes.
Toniebox Story Teller
These Toniebox Story Tellers are great when you don’t necessarily want to resort to screen time. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of screen time! But I think we all like to find alternatives here and there.
Each character tells a story and your toddler can listen. The characters make it so fun! Your toddler can even switch them out themselves.
Pickler Triangle Set
This set is perfect for the little climber in your life! Let’s be honest, every toddler loves to climb. I have found that my kids got the hang of these pretty quickly and are very safe!
Sit and Spin
This is a great sensory toy for the toddler who loves to spin. They sit and get to use their little muscles to spin it themselves, as fast or as slow as they’d like.
Kitchen Helping Tower
These towers are a game changer for the stage 5 clinger. Once toddlers get to a certain age they get very interested in what you are doing and get want to be up with you while you are cooking or doing anything in the kitchen. Enter to toddler kitchen helping tower!
You can put them down right beside you and still keep them contained and safe while they are happy to be at your level watching what you are doing.
Toddler-Safe Cutting Set
These pair really well with the kitchen helping tower. While your one year old is standing next to you, they can safely practice their cutting skills, working on both fine and gross motor skills.
Trains and Tracks Set
Every child needs a train set in their life! I love these classic wooden ones because they are pretty easy for toddlers to get the hang of putting together. You can add to the set as your child gets older.
Busy Board or Book
Busy boards or busy books are great fine motor skill activities. Every toddler loves buckles, buttons, and anything similar.
Musical Piano or Drum Set
Musical toys are great for obvious reasons, but also if you have a one year old who loves to hit and bang things. They can direct that energy to these toys! They are not super loud or annoying like some other flashy, singing toys.
Book Sets
Book sets are always a good idea for any age or child. Even though one year olds cannot read, they can look at the pictures while you read to them. These ones are great because they have the one word describing what the picture is, making it easy for toddlers to learn quick and understand.
They are also great for going back to when your child is learning how to read.
Color Sorting
One year old is the perfect time to start color sorting activities. These ones are fun because they can be used in a play kitchen as well. Toddlers can also learn about different fruits and vegetables!
Animal Matching Cards
These animal matching cards are great for the Montessori learning toddler in your life! These cards are not only fun, but educational. Toddlers could learn everything from letter and word recognition, to colors, to popular animal sounds and names.
